ABOUT US

Our Mission & Approach
At Balance Through Healing, our mission is to offer exceptional therapy services that foster mental wellness and personal growth. We strive to create a supportive space where relationships can embark on a transformative journey towards emotional well-being and a more fulfilling life.
Also Serving:
California, Washington, and Idaho

Individual Therapy
We provide individual therapy for clients navigating life transitions, grief, relationship challenges, and identity exploration. Our approach is collaborative, grounded, and trauma-informed. In sessions, we work together to uncover patterns, build insight, and create space for healing and growth—at a pace that feels right for you.
Couples Counseling
We support couples in strengthening connection, navigating conflict, and rebuilding trust using evidence-based approaches. Our work integrates the Gottman Method to improve communication and emotional safety, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) to foster values-based action and emotional flexibility, and Motivational Interviewing to support each partner’s readiness for change. Together, we create a space where both partners can feel heard, respected, and empowered to grow—individually and as a team.
Family Therapy & Reunification support
In family therapy, we focus on restoring connection, rebuilding trust, and improving communication across generations. Whether navigating transitions, conflict, or disconnection, our work is grounded in compassion and structure. Marci specializes in reunification therapy, offering a steady, child-centered approach to support families healing after separation or high-conflict dynamics. We create a safe space for each family member’s voice while moving toward healthier, more functional relationships.
Youth Sessions
Children often communicate through play long before they can fully express themselves with words. I offer a nurturing, developmentally attuned space where kids can explore emotions, build resilience, and process life experiences through sand tray therapy, play-based interventions, art, and other expressive tools. Sessions are designed to support emotional regulation, self-esteem, and secure attachment—meeting each child right where they are, with creativity and care.

MARCI VOLKMAN, LMFT #142876, LPCC #19019
Welcome to the Balance through Healing.I’m Marci Volkman, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). I work with individuals, couples, and families who are looking for support navigating relationship challenges, life transitions, or just feeling stuck. In therapy, I draw from several approaches depending on what fits best for each person. I often use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Gottman Method for couples, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). These methods give us practical tools to build stronger connections, work through conflict, and move toward meaningful change. I’m also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which can be especially helpful for healing from past trauma or overwhelming experiences. Over the years, I’ve worked with co-parents, couples working through estrangement or reconnection, and people navigating tough decisions or painful transitions. I’ve led therapy groups for teens and adults affected by alcoholism, and I’ve supported individuals involved in the legal system as they work to rebuild their lives. In schools, I’ve helped students and families improve communication and create more peace at home. I’ve also given talks and led workshops for Sacramento County on a range of mental health and relationship topics. As a certified interpreter fluent in American Sign Language, I’m also committed to supporting the Deaf community. I work closely with local agencies to make sure services are inclusive, accessible, and culturally appropriate. Above all, I believe in the power of living a purpose-driven life. Therapy can be a space to reconnect with your values, clarify what really matters to you, and take meaningful steps toward the kind of life you want to live. Even during difficult times, you don’t have to do it alone. If you're ready to start, feel free to reach out at 916-226-5218 or email me at mendingwithhope@gmail.com. I’d be honored to walk alongside you.

JENNIFER HAGAR, LMFT
Are you experiencing relationship problems – such as ongoing conflict, trust issues, or feeling distant? Maybe you have had an infidelity in your relationship. If you are, there is help and hope. Through a process of improving your communication, learning how to have productive conflict resolution, rebuilding trust, and improving the friendship and connection in your partnership; you can have a close, loving relationship. I have completed Level 2 Gottman Method Couples training. Completed a Sex Therapy Certificate from The Buehler Institute Psychological Services, Inc. For couples, I will guide you through the challenges you face during various life transitions; a betrayal in the relationship, the challenges of having a blended family, going through a divorce and coparenting, as well as difficulties in getting on the same page. Not only will you get an attentive listener and a supportive environment through out the healing process, you will walk away with tools that you can use. Both people will feel heard and understood by each other as well as by me. The Gottman Method allows me to provide real tools for you to learn to have a better relationship, improve your sex life, grow closer together and finally communicate in a satisfying way. Most couples wait at least 6 years after they actually need therapy to attend. Don’t wait that long before getting help. Sometimes couples aren’t sure if the relationship is worth saving. You can come and explore that through counseling without pressure of a specific outcome. You will find a supportive environment for you to explore all of your options. For individuals facing difficulties with anxiety, depression, grief, substance abuse; I can help you get to the other side with compassion, understanding, solutions and hope. Many people struggle with these issues and feel like they should just get better on their own. Often waiting just makes it worse. You will find that I can walk with you in this process to help you heal faster. After experiencing the loss of several close family members as a child and teenager, I started seeing a therapist to help process my grief and developed an interest in the therapeutic process as a result of my positive experience with her. About 10 years later I started therapy again for relationship issues and ended up deciding to pursue a career in the mental health field because the year I spent going to weekly therapy sessions improved my quality of life so significantly. My own experiences shaped my style as a therapist because I learned how valuable the connection formed through the therapeutic relationship can be. I am direct, yet compassionate and my clients know that I can be counted on to respond genuinely and allow them to feel understood. I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and my two pugs, Ruby and Scarlett. I love going to sporting events, especially when my kids are playing, and being anywhere near water during the summer months.

At Balance Through Healing, we offer structured, relationship-centered therapy programs for families, co-parents, and children navigating difficult transitions and emotional disconnection. Our goal is to help clients move from conflict and confusion toward clarity, connection, and repair.
Reunification Therapy
Our reunification program supports families where a child and parent have been separated—due to conflict, estrangement, or court involvement. With a child-centered, trauma-informed approach, we create gradual, supported opportunities for rebuilding trust and connection in a safe, structured environment.
Co-Parenting Support
Designed for high-conflict or transitioning families, our co-parenting program offers practical tools for communication, boundary-setting, and emotional regulation. Whether voluntary or court-ordered, we help parents shift from blame to collaboration for the benefit of their children.
Court-Ordered Family Therapy
We provide respectful, goal-oriented sessions that meet court requirements while offering real support for change. Clients are met without judgment and supported in developing healthier dynamics, communication, and co-parenting strategies.
Social Skills for Neurodivergent Kids
Our play-based, creative social skills program is tailored for neurodivergent children—including those with autism, ADHD, and sensory sensitivities and kiddos that may need additional support without a diagnosis. Using tools like sand tray, art, visual supports, and roleplay, we help children build self-awareness, emotional regulation, and relational confidence at their own pace.
At Balance Through Healing, we believe that relationships can recover—that even in moments of rupture, healing is possible. We’re here to help you find steadiness, strength, and connection in the moments that matter most.
